raise the dues and lose another two or three thousand members

why don't those in charge do things to increase membership and raise the visibility of horology

I have recently returned from the Pacific Northwest Regional in Portland and enjoyed the show and seeing several OLD friends. I grew up in Portland and first started going to chapter meetings in 1963.
Little has been going on at the national level since the election. I don't know the appointed directors, but I have talked to them and am impressed with their desire to be productive and lack of political agendas.
The budget for next year has been discussed and it does NOT include a dues increase. Every effort is being made to reduce expenses, optimize outside sources of income, and maintain current services. Obviously there will have to be an increase sometime in the future, but it will only be after all other avenues have been explored.
The next board meeting in June will have an election of new officers and an agenda I think will support the members and chapters while keeping a very tight budget.
Best regards,
Tom Bartels
