We still don't know exactly when the election will be.

Under our system the Government gets to call the date.

But the first couple of shots have been fired.

The first skirmish is over Franking Credits.

In Australia all companies pay company tax on their profits.
These profits are then passed on to share holders who were then taxed again as the money is classed as income.

Double Tax.

Someone decided this was bad so they came up with Franking credits.

Now the share holder gets his dividend plus a credit for the tax paid.

If the company was taxed at 30% and your income is taxed at 30% the two cancel each other out and you don't have to pay.
If your tax rate is 40% you have to pay 10% more.
If your tax rate is less than 30% you get the difference back as a credit.

BUT if you tax rate is zero AT THE MOMENT you can get the tax back as cash. That is the bit Labour wants to change.

What it means -

If you have an Aussi share port folio plus some other investments that generate cash like over seas shares for example the tax you get back from franking credits will still cancel out what you have to pay on your other earnings so you will be happy.

If you just have the Aussi shares and to date have been using the franking credits to get some cash back each year you will be most unhappy because that will no longer be possible.

Labour claims only the well off will be effected but I have a feeling they have under estimated how many retired people are sitting on a small parcel of shares.

Remember how we all flocked to buy Telstra ?

Things are hotting up in the election stakes.

The Liberals have had a win in the NSW State election and this has given them a bit of hope.

The main players are now going after One Nation ( Pauline Hanson's lot )

A video has emerged showing someone from her party trying to do a deal with the NRA. The plan appears to be that in exchange of a considerable donation they will gain the balance of power and move to soften the gun laws.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-03-26/secret-recordings-show-one-nation-staffers-seeking-nra-donations/10936052

This is despite their campaigning to ban overseas political donations.

https://www.watoday.com.au/politics/western-australia/one-nation-calls-for-asio-vetting-for-mps-amid-chinese-influence-concerns-20181230-p50osy.html

Regardless who said what or tried to do what this has blown a huge hole in their credibility.

This is a shame as they had just had a huge boost sighing up ex Labour PM Mark Latham who looks likely to win a seat for them in NSW.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-03-23/mark-latham-wins-nsw-upper-house-seat/10923460

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

2 days of drama and Pauline has finally put her head above the trench.

She claims this is all a terrible mistake.
It is actually an effort by a foreign power to do her party harm at the next election.
The rest is a media beat up and it is all Fake news.

Perhaps it is just me but I have a feeling I have heard this from someone else not so long ago.

Perhaps they both have the same book - "Politics for Dummies"

Looks like it is going to be one of those elections.

They can't impress us with what they have done so they will just out and out try to buy our vote.

So far we have been offered a one of cash payment to ease the burden of energy costs.

Taking the GST of the bills would be way better Laughing

There will be a cash payment for low to middle income earners to ease the TAX burden.

Stop taking it off us in the first place !!!!!!!!!!!!!

There will be money for hospitals and money for all kinds of worthy causes and extra train lines and roads.

Funny thing is it was not that long ago there was a budget crisis and we were swimming in debt.

Then there is the fringe dwellers who are going to build fast trains all over the place and solve the budget crisis in one fell swoop by changing the tax rules for business. (they didn't get the memo about the budget crisis being over)

So where did all this cash come from ????????????

None have mentioned "Tax Bracket Creep"

Funny how they never want to index those.

We now know the election date - May 18.

That means we have to endure all the BS for the next 4 weeks.

Will be interesting to see who can sink the lowest in the promises and finger pointing competition.

So far it is even up.

Meantime in the latest opinion polls One Nation has taken a huge dive.

I don't think it was their attempt to suck up to the gun lobby that did it but rather the underhand and sneaky way they went about it.
Makes it hard to take anything they say on face value.

Meantime the Palmer brainwashing adds just keep coming.

That guy is sure throwing some cash at this election.

Now read this - https://www.australianmining.com.au/news/1-2-billion-chinese-mining-investment-for-palmer/

Talk about rubber rules. Shocked

Check out this list of registered political parties.

I notice the Sex Party has gone but the

Love Australia or Leave Party might catch on.

Someone for everyone

Looks like the Liberals have done a deal with Palmer on preferences.

Perhaps all that cash he has spent is yielding a result.

Meantime One Nation has had more drama with a couple of their candidates.

Pauline is again keeping her head down.

I wonder if Labour will do a deal with her.

Now that the holidays have past the electioneering is on in earnest.

None of them are promising much but if you believe the adds the Libs are just for the rich and Labour will send us broke if they get in.

Not a decent choice amongst the lot of em.

More drama for poor old Pauline after footage was shown on the TV of her no 2 candidate feeling up the merchandise on offer at a strip club.
Not the look that goes over well for a married man sanding on family values.
Yesterday she sacked him and last night was all over the TV with big crocodile tears about how the men in her life have let her down.

Likely one of her opponents released the footage and it has made it impossible for Labor to do any deals with her to counter the ones the Libs have done with Palmer.

What started out as the unwinnable election for the Government is starting to get pretty tight.

From this point anything could happen.

Over the last few days we have lost 5 election candidates from 3 parties.

2 were removed because they promoted anti Muslim views.

1 was dismissed for promoting anti Gay views.

1 was got rid of when he voiced his opinion that the world was being run by giant lizards.

1 was dumped for putting his hands where they did not belong.

Apart from being amazed at the fact that these clowns were running at all (are they really so stupid that they thought no one would find out in an election setting) you have to ask why all this has come out now.

Tis simple really.

The deadline for nominating an alternative candidate has passed so if you can bring the current one undone you effectively remove the competition if you are standing in the same seat.

Makes you wonder about the motives and morals of those who remain if they had the dirt and saved it up for just the right moment.

Perhaps it is right that all is fair in love, war and politics but are these the kind of people we want to put in charge ???

Clive Palmer has been campaigning hard of late flogging the concept of

"Make Australia Great again"

He is against exporting jobs off shore.
He is against allowing Asian countries to take our industries.
Stop the rot.
Australians first

etc etc etc.

So where is he getting his printing done ?????

see for yourself
